Osgoode Village Canada Day Fireworks
The Osgoode Village Community Association is considering whether to include fireworks as part of the 2026 Canada Day celebrations. To meet safety requirements, we must hire a licensed display company — and a 15-minute fireworks show costs at least $10,000. To put that in perspective, $10,000 is… Double the cost of Porchfest 4x the cost of an O-YA Block Party Enough to host the entire Christmas in the Village weekend Knowing the cost associated with fireworks, we’d love to know your thoughts! Take the quick survey and have your say! Please share so we hear from as many voices as possible. |

One of OVCA’s key goals in 2024 has been to foster stronger partnerships and collaborations with other organizations, with the aim of enhancing the well-being of our Village. I am pleased to report that we have made significant strides toward achieving this objective.
Several examples of our successful collaborations include:
Our Village is truly a remarkable place, and I am often reminded of the vibrant sense of community that defines us. We have much to be proud of, and I look forward to continuing our collective work to enhance the quality of life for all residents.
Wishing you all a joyful holiday season and looking forward to seeing you in the New Year,
Rob

Several examples of our successful collaborations include:
- Support for the Garden Club, Walkies, Porchfest, and Osgoode Outreach, all of which receive insurance coverage from OVCA. OVCA also assists in securing grants on their behalf, notably this year, a generous $20,000 grant from the Government of Ontario’s Seniors Secretariat to support the Osgoode Outreach program.
- OVCA received funding from the City of Ottawa’s Agricultural and Rural Affairs Committee to purchase tents, chairs, umbrellas, and various yard games. These items are shared with other local organizations, including the Legion, Osgoode Outreach, and O-YA. In turn, O-YA loaned OVCA one of their tents for the Community Appreciation event co-hosted by OVCA and the Legion.
- The Legion has kindly provided OVCA with the use of their space at no cost, and O-YA offered the use of their facilities for some of our meetings, greatly enhancing our ability to serve the community.
- On our most successful Canada Day ever, the Legion organized and managed the bar, significantly easing the workload for the Canada Day Committee. This event also allowed the Legion to generate much-needed revenue from bar sales.
- This fall, OVCA partnered with O-YA and the Guides to host a pre-teen dance, and St. John’s Anglican Church generously provided their space at no charge. The involvement of O-YA staff, with their considerable expertise in working with youth, alleviated some of the pressure on OVCA volunteers.
- OVCA and O-YA collaborated on the seacan mural project behind the arena. Although OVCA applied for the grant to fund the project (Ottawa’s Paint It Up! program), the project would not have succeeded without O-YA’s active participation.
- At this year’s Christmas in the Village, the Scouts provided much needed assistance at Breakfast with Santa.
